Catalyst Pre-sulphurisation & Pre-activation
Evonik offers catalyst sulphiding services at their catalyst regeneration & reactivation plants in Singapore, North America, Europe and China.
Hydroprocessing catalysts with metals in oxide state are inactive to remove sulphur/nitrogen from hydrocarbon feedstocks.
These metal oxides must be converted to metal sulphides to enable reaction with H2.
This can be achieved by:
In-situ
Sulphiding by injecting sulphiding agent (e.g. DMDS) combined with heat and hydrogen.
Ex-situ
actiCAT® Presulphurisation combined with further activation in the reactor (H2+ heat). UltraCAT® Preactivation is already converted to metal sulphides (fully preactivated)
actiCAT® ex situ Catalyst Pre-sulphurising
Evonik actiCAT® pre-sulphurisation is a unique, proprietary process in which sulphiding agent is tightly bound to catalyst in an organic matrix. During the pre-sulphurisation process, a range of sulphiding chemicals are generated. These chemicals react with hydrogen over a broad temperature range resulting in a gradual and controlled activation.
Activation of actiCAT® pre-sulphurised catalyst is fast and easy. For a typical hydrotreater start-up, actiCAT® saves about 18 hours compared with in-situ sulphiding. For hydrocrackers and very large hydrotreaters, the time savings can be on the order of several days.
In addition to time savings, actiCAT® pre-sulphurized catalyst eliminates the handling of toxic, odorous sulphiding chemicals and the need for temporary pumping stations. Also, since each catalyst pellet is treated with sulphur, actiCAT® catalyst provides high levels of catalyst activity with minimal chance for metals reduction.
UltraCAT® pre-activation
The Ready-to-use solution.
UltraCAT® pre-activation technology converts metal oxides to metal sulphides and requires no further activation during the start up.
Applicable on all hydro treating units such as:
- Naphtha
- Kerosene
- Gasoil
- UltraLowSulfurDiesel(ULSD)
- FCC pretreat unit
- Lubeoil
- Claus Tail Gas Units
Technical Service
In order to help the refiner enjoy the maximum benefits of actiCAT & UltraCAT, Evonik provide technical advice on startup procedures. Onsite technical assistance during startup can be provided upon request and will be charged at cost.
